Hives deals specifically with the toxic fallout of a badly-managed breakup - dwelling on the narrator's entanglement in the behavioural cliches that proliferate in such a drawn-out aftermath and the eventual fulfilment of a disappointing male stereotype.
In its mix of rock and jazz, the song is the clearest display of the band’s burgeoning strengths. Producer Jonathan Segar returns to mix, master and offer keys, while multi-instrumentalist James Storm lends woodwinds and backing vocals.
The track was recorded in May 2021 at Factory Studios Bristol with the support of the MAS Records scheme, and is out on 5th November 2021.
